In 2007 and at the age of 32, April Capone was the first woman and youngest person to be elected Mayor and CEO of the Town of East Haven, CT.

In her two terms, she served her community by tackling a variety of complex and challenging issues such as the Great Recession and housing crash, an overhaul of public safety resources, and hurricane Irene which left the East Haven shoreline decimated from high winds and tide.


In 2011, Capone was appointed by CT Governor Dannel P. Malloy to serve as the governor’s liaison to all 169 municipalities throughout the state. In her appointed position she worked across party lines with urban and rural cities and towns on issues such as disaster resilience, housing, transportation, and infrastructure.


After serving nearly five years at the state level, Capone went on to communications roles in healthcare and public utilities. In September of 2022, she joined the National Apartment Association as the Director of External Affairs and Affiliate Engagement to support members and local governments across the country in addressing the housing crisis to provide housing opportunity at every price point and every stage of life.
