DMO Welcomes Incoming National League of Cities President Vince Williams

On behalf of the 40,000 local elected Democrats across the United States, the members of the DMO Board of Directors celebrates the election of Union City, GA Mayor Vince Williams as the next President of the National League of Cities. We also welcome incoming First Vice President, Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, WA, Second Vice President, Councilmember David Sander of Rancho Cordova, CA, along with the incoming Board of NLC. This new leadership slate comes at a time when cities are facing heightened challenges and opportunities, and we are confident they will serve the interests of all local officials in rising to the occasion.

The election of new NLC leadership comes at the end of a successful virtual City Summit conference. Local officials are facing issues from degraded infrastructure, to residents experiencing homelessness, to the increasing threat of cyberattacks. And yet, local leaders also have the opportunity to break new ground on a 21st century city that works for everyone, that improves quality of life and ensures that local economies thrive.

Several of our leaders made personal statements supporting the new NLC leadership:

“I am honored to have been elected to serve on the Executive Committee and reelected to the Board of the National League Cities, and look forward to working alongside Mayor Williams and my friends at NLC. As President of DMO and the past President of the Pennsylvania Municipal League, I know that America’s cities are facing some tough challenges. But I also know that municipal leaders have the energy, ideas, and spirit to solve these challenges together.”

My fellow Georgia Mayor and friend, Vince Williams will do an incredible job as President of NLC, and I look forward to the direction NLC will take under his stewardship.

Van Johnson
Mayor, Savannah, GA
Treasurer of DMO

“I couldn’t be more excited by the news that Mayor Williams will be the next President of NLC. As a fellow Georgian, I know that he will represent the interests of cities big and small, both urban and rural. We need more leaders who know that regardless of where you land on the political spectrum, Americans need you to get the job done. That’s something we do very well as local officials, and I know Mayor Williams will bring that ethic to his leadership of NLC.
