Communications Director
De’Marcus is a seasoned communications strategist with a decade of experience leading strategic campaigns across diverse sectors, from large institutions to political action committees. Having worked in government, public affairs, and as an in-house consultant, he brings a unique, results-driven approach to communications. His expertise goes beyond media coverage and awareness — focused on enhancing executive leadership, fostering media and stakeholder relationships, and reinforcing institutional missions through comprehensive, impactful strategies.
Prior to DMO, De’Marcus served as the Press Secretary to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, where he served as the Mayor’s spokesperson, supported crisis communications, and directed media, press engagement, and digital strategy to advance the administration’s priorities, including housing, homelessness, public safety, and economic opportunity. Previously, he was the Deputy Press Secretary for the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia L. Fudge, advising on national media strategy, leading press rollouts, and coordinating high-profile announcements and events to highlight federal housing investments and programs. Earlier, as Communications Director and Speechwriter for Congressman G.K. Butterfield, he oversaw all press, digital, and messaging operations, developing comprehensive media and digital strategies to communicate the Congressman’s legislative priorities and amplify his voice nationally and in North Carolina’s First District
Throughout De’Marcus’ career, he has developed deep expertise in media relations, crisis communications, and digital strategy, with a proven record of securing high-profile coverage, shaping narratives, and ensuring organizations and leaders communicate with clarity and impact. De’Marcus graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in Communications.
