Steven McCarty is a national Democratic strategist and municipal leader with more than a decade of experience strengthening local political infrastructure and building durable governing coalitions. His work spans campaign strategy, candidate training, coalition development, and civic technology, with a focus on equipping local leaders to win elections and govern effectively.
In Washington, D.C., Steven serves as an elected Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and was recently re elected by his colleagues to serve a second term as Chair. His leadership has centered on accountability, coalition building, and improving the delivery of public services at the neighborhood level.
Steven previously served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Washington, D.C., where he expanded community partnerships and led initiatives supporting LGBTQ youth. In 2022, he was recognized as a SMYAL Champion for helping launch a mental health program serving queer and trans young people in the District.
Professionally, Steven has worked across multiple states advising campaigns and supporting state parties, helping modernize organizing operations, streamline outreach infrastructure, and strengthen data driven engagement strategies. He has trained candidates at every level of government and worked alongside municipal and state leaders to translate grassroots energy into sustained electoral and governing success.
He also serves on the Board of Friends of 10th Street Park and is committed to advancing strong, accountable local leadership nationwide.
