What They’re Saying: National Leaders Applaud the 2025 DMO Summit in Durham, North Carolina
Durham, NC — As Democratic Municipal Officials (DMO) from across the country gathered in Durham, North Carolina for the 2025 DMO Summit, local leaders, state officials, national figures, and industry voices highlighted the critical importance of this annual convening. The Summit, running from September 18–20, brought together hundreds of Democratic mayors, city councilmembers, school board members, special district representatives, and policy advocates for a weekend of strategy, training, and collaboration.
Here’s what leaders are saying about the 2025 DMO Summit:
Bryan Kennedy, Mayor, Glendale, WI; DMO President
“The DMO Summit is more than just a gathering, it’s a launchpad for action. When we bring together Democratic local leaders from across the country, we create a space to connect, share ideas, and inspire one another. These conversations don’t end in the conference rooms — they carry back to our communities, shaping policies and strengthening democracy at the local level. That’s the power of DMO: connecting, electing, and empowering leaders to turn shared learnings into real-world impact.”
Angela Rogensues, Councilmember, Warren, MI; DMO Vice President
“No one understands the community like a local official. The DMO Summit is essential — it connects us, educates us, and reminds us that we are not alone in the fight for justice and equity.”
Leonardo Williams, Mayor, Durham, NC; DMO Treasurer
“Durham was proud to welcome the 2025 DMO Summit to the Bull City. As local leaders, we know that the work of building stronger, more inclusive communities starts in our neighborhoods and city halls. Hosting this Summit allowed us to showcase Durham’s spirit of innovation and collaboration while connecting with colleagues from across the country who share a vision for progress.”
Gary Hansen, Councilmember, Eagan, MN; DMO Secretary
“The Summit is where ideas move from theory to action. Whether we’re discussing housing, public safety, or climate resilience, DMO equips us with the network and knowledge to implement progressive solutions on the ground.”
Jennifer Adams, Councilmember, Tempe, AZ; DMO Board Member
“I started my political journey as a city councilmember. I know firsthand how vital these summits are. They shape careers, refine policy, and give leaders the tools they need to lead with integrity and vision.”
Bob Blumenfield, Council President Pro Tem, Los Angeles, CA; DMO Board Member
“This Summit is about building durable power at the local level. We’re exchanging best practices, amplifying voices that are often overlooked, and preparing to lead our communities through complex challenges with clarity and courage.”
Jim Demay, School Board, Mounds View, MN; DMO Board Member
“Local electeds are often the first line of defense for working families. This Summit brings labor and government together to build stronger, fairer communities. It’s where real partnerships are formed.”
Matt Keating, Councilmember, Eugene, OR and former Democratic National Committee Member; DMO Board Member
“The future of the Democratic Party depends on the strength of our cities and towns. DMO is how we support the people who are governing where real lives are lived — and the 2025 Summit is central to that mission.”
