Democratic Municipal Officials Announces De’Marcus Finnell As New Communications Director
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Municipal Officials (DMO), the national organization representing America’s Democratic mayors, city councilmembers, school board members, and other municipal leaders, today announced the hire of De’Marcus Finnell as its new Communications Director.
Finnell brings over a decade of experience in media relations, strategic communications, digital strategy, crisis communications, and writing and editing across federal, state, and local government, national political campaigns, and advocacy organizations.
Prior to joining DMO, he served as the Press Secretary for Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, supporting media strategy, press engagement, and digital communications that elevated the administration’s priorities on housing, homelessness, public safety, and economic opportunity. Before that, he was the Deputy Press Secretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under the leadership of U.S. Secretary Marcia Fudge, where he advanced the agency’s national communications and secured major media placements.
Finnell has also held senior communications roles with Members of Congress and advocacy organizations, consistently driving impactful messaging and high-profile media coverage.
“De’Marcus brings the experience, creativity, and steady hand that DMO needs to amplify the voices of local Democratic leaders across the country,” said Cheyenne Davis-Eubanks, Executive Director of Democratic Municipal Officials. “His proven track record in media relations, digital strategy, and crisis communications will strengthen our ability to tell the stories of Democratic municipal officials and the impact they are making in their communities every day.”
In his new role, Finnell will lead DMO’s national communications strategy, managing media outreach, digital engagement, and messaging that highlights the work of Democratic municipal officials across the country.
“I am honored to join Democratic Municipal Officials at such a critical moment for local leadership,” said De’Marcus Finnell. “Throughout my career, I have seen how powerful communications can be in shaping policy conversations and uplifting communities. I look forward to building on DMO’s work to share the stories of Democratic municipal leaders who are driving solutions on housing, public safety, economic opportunity, and beyond.”
Democratic Municipal Officials is the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Association for municipal elected officials who personally identify as members of the Democratic Party. The organization holds three seats on the DNC, and advocates for the thousands of local elected Democrats across the United States.
